YouthSafe is an initiative of the Labor Council of NSW. It was established in response to the ongoing statistical evidence showing a high incidence of accidents involving young people at work. Bob Car (Premier of NSW) officially launched Youthsafe in May 1997 at the Olympic Stadium construction site. The YouthSafe Committee consists of representatives from a diverse range of industries and backgrounds including: clerical, nursing, hospitality, retail, metal trades and construction as well as apprentices, trainees, school students and university students. Our primary focus is to raise the awareness among young workers (and future young workers) of the occupational health and safety issues in the workplace, their rights and responsibilities as an employee and the responsibilities of their employer.
